New Beginnings

11 09 2013

We had a lot of new beginnings in the little blue house these past few months, which has been exciting, and nerve wracking and a bit crazy at times.  I got married to a lovely lady at the end of May, on an exceptionally hot but beautiful day.  We were surrounded by our best friends and family, and purposefully kept it small and low key to fit our style.  In planning the wedding we talked a lot with the little bugs about how they might want to participate, and what they would like to see at the wedding.   They were very enthusiastic about participating, so they walked me down the aisle, read a poem at the wedding, and assisted with the rings when it came time.  Firefly had really wanted to pronounce us married, but we decided to let the officiant do that, otherwise that boy would have probably performed the whole ceremony if we let him.  Their other request was that the wedding have a bouncy house.  They said that the other weddings they’ve been to were very boring, and what would have made them better was a bouncy house.  So a bouncy house it was!

At the end of July a new nephew for me and the boys’ first cousin made his grand entrance into the world.  While we haven’t been able to visit yet the boys are thrilled to have a cousin and have lots of plans to teach him many things.

And then finally, Lightning Bug started Kindergarten last week.  It was definitely bittersweet for me.  I am thrilled to have both boys at the same school and on the same schedule, and drop offs and pick ups are so much easier.  It also meant however, that for the first time in 4 years I have no little bugs at the preschool at the University where I work.  The boys loved their preschool and when we drove by the other day begged to go in to visit- I was the meanest mommy ever and said no, as it was naptime we were unable to, but I have a feeling they are not going to forget that request.  The Kindergarten transition has gone very well, with some nerves the first day, but overall lots of positive things (when I can actually get him to tell me about his day).  Lightning Bug been exhausted as Firefly was at the beginning of Kindergarten, and has expressed that he misses his old preschool naps- which is very interesting given that he hardly ever napped towards the end of preschool and complained daily about nap time.  Now that they’re gone, he is missing them, and comes home ravenous and exhausted, but seems to be enjoying himself and learning a lot.

Looking forward to what this next year of new beginnings might bring- it is always an adventure for sure!
